Travis Bowden is the President of Crossroads Risk Management, LLC, Georgia’s first new Captive Management firm in several years.

Travis’ experience includes work with the management, formation, structuring and all other aspects of captive insurance and Risk Retention Groups.

As the Georgia Department of Insurance’s Supervisor of Captives and Risk-Bearing Entities, Travis Bowden modernized and improved every aspect of the filing mechanisms, data retention, and overall compliance patterns of Georgia’s captive insurance regulation. Additionally, he worked with insurance regulators around the world on captive insurance and many other self-insurance issues, building working relationships with many of the nation’s top insurance regulators.

Biography

 

During Travis’ years at the Georgia Department of Insurance, he assisted with the formation of over 5000 new companies. By the time of his exit, he personally oversaw the ongoing compliance of thousands of entities. This was all of Georgia’s captive insurance companies, Risk Retention Groups, Pre-Paid Legal Plans, Risk Purchasing Groups, Automobile Self-Insurers, Vehicle Protection Warrantors, Life Settlement Providers, Pharmacy Benefit Managers, Life Plan Communities, Third Party Administrators and others in Georgia’s captive insurance and Alternative Risk entities.  

Captive and Risk Retention Groups doubled their direct written premiums from just over $2 billion each year to $4.2 billion a year between the time of Travis’ assumption of the Georgia Department’s captive insurance supervision and his exit from the Georgia government.

An Atlanta native, Travis is a Georgia State University graduate. He holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, the Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation, the Certified Insurance Examiner (CIE) designation, the Market Conduct Management (MCM) designation, the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation, and others. Travis was the only captive insurance regulator in the United States to hold any of these designations during his time as a regulator.

Travis was recently elected the Chairman of the Board of the Georgia Captive Insurance Council, a trade association and advisory board that serves as the only official advocacy group for Georgia captive insurance and Risk Retention Groups both in Georgia and in Washington, D.C. 

A former Executive Director of the Georgia Republican Party as well as having served as a member of its Executive and State Committees, Travis has lasting relationships with financial service professionals, government officials and elected leaders across the United States.

He is also a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and serves as a member of the CPCU Society’s working group for Reinsurance & Excess Surplus Specialty Lines. Additionally, Travis is a member of the Buckhead, Atlanta Rotary Club.
